音に反応し人間を襲う”何か”によって荒廃した世界で、生き残った1組の家族がいた。その”何か”は、呼吸の音さえ逃さない。誰かが一瞬でも音を立てると、即死する。手話を使い、裸足で歩き、道には砂を敷き詰め、静寂と共に暮らすエヴリン＆リーの夫婦と子供たちだが、なんとエヴリンは出産を目前に控えているのであった。果たして彼らは、無事最後まで沈黙を貫けるのか？
