Après un atterrissage forcé, Kitai Raige et son célèbre père Cypher se retrouvent en rade sur la Terre, 1 000 ans après les cataclysmes qui ont fait fuir l'humanité. Alors que Cypher est blessé, Kitai doit entreprendre un dangereux voyage pour chercher de l'aide. Ils doivent apprendre à travailler en équipe et à se faire confiance, s'ils veulent avoir la moindre chance de retourner chez eux.
