Après avoir vécu un grand drame, Michael, devenu adulte, tente de mener une vie normale avec ses trois enfants sur Cherry Tree Lane. Il est épaulé par sa soeur Jane, une activiste magnanime, et sa gouvernante, Ellen. Un jour, sans avertissement, l'énigmatique nounou Mary Poppins débarque chez lui afin de s'occuper de ses enfants qui, en raison des récents événements, ont vieilli beaucoup trop vite. Avec l'aide de son ami Jack, l'allumeur de réverbères, l?envoûtante Mary Poppins s'affairera à ramener la joie et l'émerveillement dans le coeur des enfants Banks.
