Un groupe de guerrières appelé Agojie est chargé de protéger le royaume de Dahomey. La générale Nanisca forme la nouvelle génération de recrues. Parmi elles, on retrouve Nawi, une jeune femme forcenée que son père a abandonnée aux portes du palais parce qu'elle a refusé d'épouser un homme qui la battait. Déterminée à se battre pour ce en quoi elle croit, elle deviendra bientôt l'une des soldates les plus douées et téméraires du clan.
