Hellraiser (2022): "Be Full Frontal With Me"

Jamie Clayton didn't just make major headlines when she landed the role of Pinhead in the new Hellraiser (2022) movie, she also made horror history. Clive Barker's original novella — and the 1987 film adaptation — were both deeply rooted in the queer kink scene, and the reboot brings that LGBTQIA+ representation directly onto the screen through its cast and characters. But by being able to be explicit about its inclusivity, did this flick sacrifice a little of its explicitness in other areas? For our latest episode of Trans Pride, we're summoning the Cenobites for a conversation about the yuck factor and yum factor involved in the newest installment of one of the genre's biggest franchises.  This month, we're donating all of our proceeds to non-profit organizations dedicated to helping and protecting the trans community. You can help by participating in our Instagram fundraiser benefiting Transgender Law Center, joining our Patreon, or streaming both old and new episodes through the end of June. Happy Pride! Queens of the Dead (2025): "Our Strongest & Fiercest, Honey"

Pride is back, baby — and, as always, Pride is political. That's why we've decided to dedicate our whole 2026 lineup to Trans Pride and raising money for organizations like the Transgender Law Center, and we're kicking this party off with Queens of the Dead (2025). Directed by Tina Romero, daughter of Night of the Living Dead creator George A. Romero, this flick follows in the family tradition as it focuses a zombie outbreak on the queer nightlife scene. With an incredible ensemble cast that features performers like Katy O'Brian, Jaquel Spivey, Jack Haven, Dominique Jackson, and Margaret Cho, this monster movie will have you believing in the power of both calling on your community and lip syncing for your life. Primate (2025): "It's Girlie O'Clock"

Spookies, we're sure some people are suffering from grief horror fatigue, but you have space in your heart for a tight 90 about a rabid chimp, right? In Primate (2025), Johannes Roberts is mixing up the tired trope by ignoring a family's lost loved one almost entirely, instead focusing the story on what happens to a group of teens when their late mom's adopted ape goes — well, we hate to say it, but — ape shit. Straddling the line between monster movie and slasher, this flick features more gore than you might expect, and it does it all with a few classic horror references. Join us on a new Spooky Tuesday as we pack our bags and head to Hawaii for summer break. Oh, and we brought this teddy bear for someone special, too. 🧸  References: Primate Interview with Cast and Director Miguel Torres Umba: PRIMATE Primate Exclusive Featurette: Directing from the Pool https://dmtalkies.com/primate-movie-ending-explained-2026/ https://www.animallaw.info/article/incidents-attacks-involving-captive-chimpanzees https://www.reddit.com/r/Moviesinthemaking/comments/1q8qfwx/behind_the_scenes_of_primate_2025/#lightbox https://www.instagram.com/p/DU34gKrDlTV/

Hokum (2026): "Down the Rabbit Hole"

If scary bunnies and folk horror are your thing, you're probably already familiar with Damian McCarthy's work — but in case you aren't, his newest project, Hokum (2026), is about to put him on your radar. Starring Emmy-nominated TV actor Adam Scott, this horror movie about an author contemplating bleak endings at a remote Irish inn is about to introduce its indie darling director to a whole new American audience. But after Oddity nabbed five knives across the board when we covered it last August, can his follow-up film survive the hype? Join us on our latest episode as we dig into this flick's symbolism and realize Mommy Issues May is still alive and well here at Spooky Tuesday.   References: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hokum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cailleach https://www.slashfilm.com/2161614/hokum-director-same-creepy-idea-keeps-working/ https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/hokum-ending-explained-adam-scott-damian-mccarthy-interview

Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026): "The Boy: Mummy Edition"

Given that Lee Cronin's The Mummy (2026) is the first version of the classic Universal monster movie to feature actual Egyptian actors, it may technically be the most authentic. But when you consider how much of it takes place in Albuquerque while centering on an American family and taking inspiration from bog mummies in the UK, it's kind of a different story. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're unwrapping all of the Evil Dead-esque dressings to get to the bottom of what makes this mummy movie different as we debate what works, what doesn't, and what's only there to gross you out.  References:  https://www.indiewire.com/features/interviews/lee-cronin-the-mummy-interview-1235188953/

Over Your Dead Body (2026): "If You Like Piña Coladas"

What's worse, Spookies: Cheating on your husband or spiritually cheating at Scrabble? In Over Your Dead Body (2026), Samara Weaving and Jason Segel put that philosophical question to the test as they play a married couple tight-rope walking the fine line between love and hate. A remake of a Norwegian film known internationally as The Trip, Jorma Taccone's newest project is a black comedy that amps up the gasps and the gore and adds an A-list cast for flavor. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we're heading out for a weekend by the lake as we break down American adaptations, surprising pop culture references, and that shocking basement scene.  References: https://bloody-disgusting.com/interviews/3946980/over-your-dead-bodys-director-interview/ https://www.flickeringmyth.com/action-comedy-and-comedy-action-over-your-dead-body-director-jorma-taccone-interview/ https://mamasgeeky.com/2026/04/over-your-dead-body-jorma-taccone.html https://cinemadailyus.com/interviews/over-your-dead-body-interview-with-director-jorma-taccone/

    Mother Mary (2026): "Quantum Entanglement"

Pop Star Horror Month wouldn't exist without this fourth movie's recent release, so of course we had to close out our theme event by covering Mother Mary (2026). Starring Anne Hathaway as the titular character and Michaela Coel as her former friend and costume designer, David Lowery's newest flick for A24 proclaims that it's both not a ghost story and not a love story — but there's definitely something haunting about a homoerotic friendship that has long since fallen apart. Though its propensity towards poetry over plot might not grab you on a first watch, this story is worth a second look, and there's a conversation to be had about whether you can ever truly get a second chance.  References: https://www.polygon.com/mother-mary-director-interview-david-lowery/ https://www.slashfilm.com/2155642/mother-mary-director-david-lowery-interview/ https://yourbodyhastheanswer.com/palm-chakras/palm-chakras/ https://eastvillagedental.ca/cultural-beliefs-and-practices-wisdom-teeth/ https://genius.com/albums/Anne-hathaway/Mother-mary-greatest-hits MOTHERMARY Band: https://www.instagram.com/mothermarymusic/

    Smile 2 (2024): "Entrepreneurial Demon"

Spookies, it doesn't get more pop star or more horror than Smile 2 (2024), which is why this flick *had* to be up next in our Pop Star Horror Month lineup. Packed full of genuinely catchy music and insanely theatrical visuals, the second movie in the Smile franchise makes sitting through the first film totally worth it, even if that sort of feel-bad-bleakness isn't your style. Starring Naomi Scott as troubled singer Skye Riley with cameos from horror kings Kyle Gallner, Lukas Gage, and Ray Nicholson, this sequel raises important questions about the lore we're working with here, but more importantly, it also teaches some important lessons — like don't summon a demon if you don't want to deal with a demon.  References: https://screenrant.com/smile-2-curse-victims-guilt-connection-op-ed/ https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/560785/rumor-parker-finn-might-wipe-the-smile-off-smile-3/

Opus (2025): "Pubes on Prada Shoes"

The buzz around Opus (2025) may have been more build-up than pay-off in the horror fandom, but it's time to give this flick the attention it deserves, Spookies. For our second installment of Pop Star Horror Month, we're heading out to Moretti's private compound with budding music journalist Ayo Edebiri, and we're ready to do our research on the lore while paying attention to all the small touches that make John Malkovich's star power shine. Though this movie may not be perfect, between its cast full of familiar faces and a soundtrack made up of bangers, there's a lot here to applaud.  References: https://scriptmag.com/interviews-features/the-facets-of-tribalism-a-conversation-with-opus-writer-director-mark-anthony-green https://www.levelman.com/mark-anthony-greens-journey-from-gqs-style-guy-to-horror-auteur/ https://screenrant.com/opus-guests-invited-by-moretti-reasons-explained/ https://people.com/music/halsey-apologizes-world-trade-center-joke/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_written_by_Justin_Tranter

    Trap (2024): "Perceiving Hole"

Spookies, it feels like we've been waiting forever to work this theme month into our schedule, but one could also argue the genre was only invented in 2024. Nonetheless, we'd like to welcome Pop Star Horror Month to the stage, and we've invited Trap (2024) to be our opening act. A true daddy-daughter film where Josh Hartnett plays a doting father who moonlights as a serial killer, this flick also features a collab between writer-director M. Night Shyamalan and his own double act offspring, Saleka Shyamalan. The Phantom of the Opera (2004): "Principessa Bella Diva"

We've got a lot to celebrate this week, Spookies! Not only is it our very own Monica's birthday, it's also a Fifth Tuesday and the sneaky unofficial start to a new themed month — so of course we had to cover The Phantom of the Opera (2004). A luxe movie musical that captures the theatrical flair of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Broadway show and pairs it with the camp sensibilities of director Joel Schumacher, this flick practically jumps out of the screen when that first booming note hits. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we challenge you not to sing along as we talk all things score and book lore.  References: https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/did-minnie-driver-and-emmy-rossum-feud-on-the-phantom-of-the-opera-set.html/ https://x.com/driverminnie/status/1275219191323217920 https://x.com/JohnTylerJRT/status/884599605601738752 https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/how-to-explain-trumps-love-for-the-musical-cats https://www.onstageblog.com/columns/2015/11/29/why-it-sucked-the-phantom-of-the-opera

    Slanted (2026): "Prayers & Ammo"

Pitching itself as The Substance meets Mean Girls, Slanted (2026) is the hot new high school body horror hitting the scene — but if you go in expecting either of those movies, you're not setting yourself up for success. A slower-paced but sharply-fanged satire, this flick looks at life in America with fresh eyes as it explores themes of immigration and assimilation. With Shirley Chen and Mckenna Grace sharing one race-swapping role as Joan-turned-Jo, Amy Wang's first feature examines one way to try and remove racism from your life, and we're digging into the details on a new Spooky Tuesday.    References:  https://joysauce.com/slanted-director-amy-wang-wants-you-to-confront-your-asian-shame/  https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/real-life-inspirations-behind-new-horror-movie-slanted  Interview with Slanted Cast and Director Interview with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Amelie Zilber, and Amy Wang

    Eight Legged Freaks (2002): "A Stripper's Crotch"

Did a certain recent release have you longing for a little more David Arquette? Then you might be on the same page as our Patrons, because when it came time for them to pick a flick in our Quarterly Vote, they went with Eight Legged Freaks (2002). A creature feature that takes creepy crawlies and gives them the classic toxic waste treatment, this monster movie dares to ask if there's anything scarier than a spider. The answer, BTW? Two hundred spiders that are all really big. In the horror community, opinions are majorly divided when it comes to Scream 7 (2026) — and that holds true here at Spooky Tuesday. Se7en (1995): "Hang Dong Crazy Style"

If you love a movie with a twist or just one that's twisted, Se7en (1995) is probably at the top of your list. A serial killer crime story that stars Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and the admin from your favorite medical shows as five-second side characters, this fucked up flick draws inspiration from the seven deadly sins — and potentially a secret eighth one if you buy into those theories. With its torturous death tableaus, it also reads as a clear precursor to John Kramer's Saw traps, and we're discussing all those details and more on a new Spooky Tuesday.  References: https://screenrant.com/se7en-hidden-details-never-noticed-movie/ https://filmobsessive.com/film/film-analysis/one-key-detail-will-change-the-way-you-watch-se7en/ https://www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/1f5ogv/se7en_john_doe_was_not_the_killer_somerset_was/ SE7EN : Deleted Scenes, Alt. Cold Storage (2026): "What's Your Teacake?"

Sorry, Spookies, we didn't mean to pick a flick that was impossible to see in theaters — but if you can manage to hunt down a showing of Cold Storage (2026) near you, it's definitely worth the watch. Starring Joe Keery, Georgina Campbell, and Liam Neeson, this horror comedy tackles the zombie genre in ways that are both familiar and fresh. With CLEAR references to films like The Return of the Living Dead, Train to Busan, and Alien, David Koepp's smart new book-turned-screenplay is very much in conversation with the genre, and we're pointing out parallels and parsing the different kinds of pastries on a new Spooky Tuesday.  References: https://www.nasa.gov/history/45-years-ago-skylab-reenters-earths-atmosphere/ Zombie Ant Fungus Explained

Sushi dinners with Rachel McAdams on a tropical island? That sounds like heaven to us, so we're not sure what Dylan O'Brien is complaining about in Sam Raimi's new horror comedy, Send Help (2026). On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we're getting to the bottom of it, though, as we revisit our Survivor days, push Teen Wolf on Monica, and break down all that CGI gore. Ready to get romantic? For our Valentine’s Day episode, we thought we’d host the ultimate getaway at a little place we like to call Bone Lake (2025). Located out in an isolated wood, it’s as sexy — and deadly — as it sounds, and this flick turns up the heat when two couples discover they’ve booked the same luxurious lake house for the weekend. Bugonia (2025): "Bees. Basement. Spaceship. Emily-Bald."

Rumor has it that this week's pick might be one of the best pictures of 2025 — and with the Oscars showing the horror genre so much love this year, we figured we'd repay the favor. On our latest episode, we're taking a hard look at the world and what's really going on with Bugonia (2025), the latest collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, and Jesse Plemons. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025): "Fatty Chica"

It's that time of year again, Spookies: Matthew Lillard's birthday has circled around on the calendar once more, and we're celebrating with Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025). Though this flick is a little light on the Matty Lilly, it does give us the Billy & Stu reunion we've long been yearning for — at least sort of. With Skeet Ulrich joining the cast, our fave two homoerotic horror actors were reunited on the red carpet, and we're hopeful the third installment will give us even more. Silent Night (2021): "Disagree with the Discord"

The holidays may be over, but it’s still important to get the whole family together, which is why we picked Silent Night (2021) to help bring us back from our break. A nontraditional horror movie about spending the end of the world with the people you care about, it raises questions that are unfortunately all too relevant to our trying times. The Thing (2011): "Weird That It Happened Twice"

Our Patrons made their voices heard, Spookies, and the official results are in: We're covering The Thing (2011) for our Quarterly Patreon Pick. Less a remake of the 1982 John Carpenter original and more a revisiting to that same universe, this flick continues to explore the lore behind the ever elusive ~thing.~ It also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an Ellen Ripley-esque scientist, so you *know* that's right up our alley. On our last episode of 2025, we're getting into the original plans for this scifi flick, the studio meddling that knocked it off course, and all the various ways we could sex it up to make an Antarctic research station just a little bit hotter.  Check out our episode on The Thing (1982) here: https://www.spookytuesdaypod.com/latest-episodes/the-thing-1982 References: https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/the-thing-2011-stealth-prequel-john-carpenter-original-stronger https://cinapse.co/2019/11/the-thing-2011-its-probably-better-than-you-remember/ https://www.cinemablend.com/movies/i-rewatched-2011s-the-thing-and-still-believe-it-gets-too-much-hate https://activemaas.wordpress.com/2024/01/16/continuity-and-discrepancy-in-1982-and-2011-the-thing/ https://wickedhorror.com/features/editorials/practical-matters-the-frustrating-story-of-the-thing-prequel-we-could-have-had/ https://monsterlegacy.net/2013/03/03/the-thing-pilot-alien-creature-deleted-fired/ https://www.reddit.com/r/RedLetterMedia/comments/8yoy9f/i_had_access_to_behind_the_scenes_of_the_thing/ https://open.substack.com/pub/thecurvingeye/p/xenomaternity-and-me The Thing Making Of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDn4XBKXrCk The Thing ADI In House Tests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R8ASn25GLg

The Woman in Black (2012): "Ether for the Whole Family"

The spirit of Frankenstein still lives within us, Spookies — which is why we're just not ready to move on from some of those themes. This week, we're staying in the gothic horror genre as we cover The Woman in Black (2012), a remake of an '80s made-for-TV movie that stars Daniel Radcliffe in one of his first non-Potter roles. A ghost story with a karmic kick, this flick features chihuahuas in sailor suits, dancing monkeys, and all the ether you could ever dream of, so join us on a new Spooky Tuesday as we go trawling through the muck and fog to try and put some souls to rest.  References: https://fantasyliterature.com/reviews/the-woman-in-black/ https://moviecuriosities.fmuk.org.uk/?p=2786 https://ruelleelectrique.wordpress.com/2012/02/09/film-review-the-woman-in-black-sister-to-la-llorona-and-the-lady-of-the-lake/ https://www.theguardian.com/film/2012/feb/05/susan-hill-jane-goldman-interview?newsfeed=true
