ワッツ暴動の爪痕が残る1970年代初頭のロサンゼルス、ワッツ地区。スタンは妻と2人の子どもたちを養うため羊の屠殺場で働きながら、空虚な毎日を送っている。日々の労働と貧困のせいで肉体的にも精神的にも疲れ果てている彼は自分の殻に閉じこもるようになり、妻は孤独を募らせていく。
