여고생 코트니는 잠이 들 때마다 마치 엘비스 프레슬리 복장에 전기 드릴이 달린 기타를 들고 달려드는 살인마(The Driller Killer)의 악몽에 시달린다. 그러다가 주말에 친구들과 함께 별장에서 생일 파티를 하게 되는데, 이때 악몽에서 시달리던 살인마가 실제로 나타나 자신과 친구들을 전기 드릴로 잔혹하게 살해한다. 혼자 남은 코트니는 그가 콜드니의 언니를 사랑하다 배반당해 언니를 죽이고 자신마저 보복하려는 것을 알게 된다. 결국 콜드니는 그를 불에 태워 죽인다.
