Eli tem 12 anos. Ela tem 12 anos há mais de 200 anos e acabou de se mudar para a porta ao lado.
Oskar é um garoto só. Na escola ele sempre é provocado por outros garotos e, incapaz de reagir. Um dia, ele conhece Eli, uma garota pálida e solitária, que se mudou recentemente, com seu suposto pai. Apesar do temor em se aproximar de Oskar, logo Eli se torna sua amiga. Paralelamente, uma série de assassinatos macabros acontecem, em que o sangue das vítimas é retirado. Eli está envolvida com estes fatos, de uma forma que Oskar jamais poderia imaginar.
