戴夫·斯盖拉克和好基友亚伦是某八卦脱口秀的主持人和制作人，虽然收视率节节攀升，但是新闻记者出身的亚伦还是希望能在正统的领域内大有作为。与此同时，北朝鲜统治着金正恩号称要用核武器轰炸美国西海岸，朝美两国关系瞬间跌至冰点，剑拔弩张。而戴夫则突发奇想，要面对面采访这个世人眼里如同恶魔一般的独裁者。当两人还未动身之际，CIA探员主动找上门来，要求他们在采访期间伺机刺杀金正恩。几个回合下来，不靠谱的戴夫和亚伦答应了这个危险的任务。他们总算来到神秘的朝鲜，可是突发状况却接二连三出现……
